Fiskeby Board is Europe’s oldest manufacturer of paper and board. Down the years, lots of different paper qualities have been manufactured here, from handmade paper to modern packaging board.
Fiskeby Board is Europe’s oldest manufacturer of paper and board. Back in 1637, the mill received a letter of privilege from Queen Kristina to start manufacturing paper. At that time the paper mill was a handmade paper mill. With the exception of a break between 1852 and 1872 paper production has been going on continuously since the 1630s.
In 1887 a pulp mill was built to manufacture pulp. The mill was used to produce items such as newspaper paper, wallpaper, tissue paper, etc. In 1950 the first plans were drawn up to build a new board machine at Fiskeby. This was completed in 1953. In 2010 a new solid fuel boiler was opened, securing all steam production requirements for the board manufacturing process as well as 40% of the mill’s electricity requirements.
Over the years, ownership has also changed. The company is privately owned since 2007 by Fiskeby Holding LLC, USA, led by Coors family.
